A dashcam for your phone. It records the road and keeps the clips from around a crash.
dishdash records the road while you drive. Footage goes into a rotating buffer on your phone, and when the app detects an impact it protects the clips either side of it so the buffer cannot delete them. GPS is logged alongside, so every drive has a route, a speed readout, and marks where you braked hard or turned sharply.
It can start recording on its own when you dock the phone, when your car stereo connects, or when Android reports that you seem to be driving, and it can stop when you reach a place you have saved. It tells you when the lens is blocked, misted or pointing the wrong way. Before you share a clip it can blur number plates and faces on a copy.
Google asks any app that wants access to your Drive to say plainly what it does with it, so this section covers Google Drive on its own.
Backup is off until you set it up. If you choose Google Drive, dishdash asks for the drive.file scope, which only reaches files the app created itself. It cannot see, list or open anything else in your Drive, and it never asks to. We use that scope instead of a hidden application folder on purpose, because a clip you are keeping to show what happened has to be reachable by you, from any device, without this app installed.
dishdash uses that access to upload the clips you chose to back up, and to check by name whether a clip is already there so it does not upload it twice. It does nothing else with it.
dishdash’s use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Your footage is never passed to anyone else. There is nowhere to pass it to, because dishdash has no server. It is never used for advertising, never sold, never used to build a profile of you and never read by a person. The access token is stored in your phone’s encrypted keystore, and signing out deletes it.
